STAY TUNED FOR 2020 DATES! Last years details below.

Hi Everyone,

I will be teaching two three-day landscape painting workshops this summer — 2019.

June 18, 19 and 20.         August 13, 14, and 15.  Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursdays.

Goals of the workshop: Work on at least one painting from start to finish with guided instruction along the way. Painting  landscapes in this way, over consecutive days, will help you to produce your best work to date and you may find that you complete 2 or 3 fresh new oil paintings.

Structure of the workshop: I will paint a demo on the first morning so that all of you will be able to see how I approach laying in a landscape as well as answer questions as I paint.  I have learned a lot from watching other artists at work and I think you will find it helpful. After my demo we will take a break for lunch then each of you will set up and work on your own paintings as I give helpful instruction as you go along. There may be time for 2 paintings in the afternoon if the weather is nice — I’m happy to stay as long as you like.

You can paint one-shot oil studies on the next two mornings depending on the day. After lunch you will work on your afternoon paintings and this can be very exciting because its usually where you start to see real progress! Everything is pretty much in the correct place so now we are getting the values right and paying attention to color. I will rotate around the group coaching as I go, giving you tips and strategy to pull off a winning painting!

The third day will be pretty much the same but at some point we will all get together and have a critique session where we look at all the work and discuss what we have accomplished.

Location: Prescott Park in Portsmouth, NH. This is a great place to paint in downtown Portsmouth. Within a 2 block radius there is the park itself with beautiful flower beds and trees. Google Prescott Park and click on photos. It abuts the Piscataqua River with views out over the water. Also, the Strawberry Banke is across the street and that is a historic district filled with restored colonial buildings. A cool place to paint. There are also lots of scenic little streets that make great subjects.

And Portsmouth is very hip with lots of groovy stores and places to eat. There are many good places to eat a short walk from the park.

Lodging: There are also lots of convenient places to stay if you are coming from far away. I’m told that AirBNB is a good way to go for a few nights stay but there are also many hotels including Marriott and Hilton. Everything is in walking distance to the Park.

Cost of 3 day workshop: The cost is $300 for the 3 days. This cost includes the demos and hands-on instruction as you paint for the 3 days. I ask for half in advance to hold your place and the rest when you arrive.

If you have any questions please call me at 617–285-8313.

Please send checks to hold your place or use PayPal
